Grade 9 Immunizations - Immunizations for Grade 9 students will be on February 6th. Consent forms will go home on January 9th, please return the signed consent form to the office by January 16th. If you have any questions or concerns call Denise Cronshaw (School Nurse) at 604-918-7593.

Health information
If your child is feeling sick and staying home, please notify the school of their absence. Be sure to keep them home until they fully recover. Daily Physical Activity

As another year has started we hope all our students have either continued their health and fitness goals from last year or are ready to set new ones.  To assist students in meeting the Daily Physical Activity requirement, Burnaby Central will be providing a number of excellent opportunities to get fit and have some fun.

As a reminder, the activity goals for each grade are:
Grade 8 to 12 – 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week.

Students can choose a number of different activities in addition to their PE class to help them reach these goals.  For more information, visit the very informative link to the Ministry of Education’s presentation on Daily Physical Activity by clicking here.  In addition to our Physical Education Program, our school’s activity schedule for this fall is below:

Intramurals

  • Co-Ed Volleyball at lunch in October/November
  • Coming soon: Badminton (Dec/Jan), Indoor Soccer (Feb/Mar), and Floor Hockey (Apr/May).  Spectators must stay in the bleachers.

Open Gym         

  • Weight Room-after school depending on supervisors
  • Basketball – at lunch in the small gym
  • Running Club – meet after school (see Mr. Kamiya for more information or look for the schedule posted outside the PE Office)
  • Sign up at the PE office if you are interested in Girls Only Weight Room and the Walking Club

 
Extra-Curricular Activity – See the Athletic Director Mr. Kuhn or the school planner for information regarding the variety of sports offered at Burnaby Central

Grade 8/9/10/11/12 PE Students: DPA requirement will be met through participation in PE 8/9/10/11/12 (DPA log is not needed)
*Grade 8/9 Students not enrolled in a PE course will need to hand in a DPA Log to Mr. Vagnarelli (PE Office)
*Grade 10/11/12 Students not enrolled in a PE course during a semester will need to hand in a DPA Log to Ms. MacDonald or Ms. Neves (Graduation Transition Office in Sudent Services). Log Sheets will need to be handed in prior to Term 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Collaborative Time

We will be implementing Collaborative Time into the school timetable starting Wednesday, March 14, 2012, and will continue until Wednesday, April 25, 2012.

Students are expected to be in attendance for these sessions. The following activities will be taking place:

  • Grade 8 and 9 students will be meeting with their assigned mentorship groups
  • Grade 10 students will have tutorial sessions in classrooms
  • Grade 11 and 12 students will have study sessions in assigned areas
