PAC Fundraiser - Vancouver 2010 Souvenir Program
Support Burnaby Central by purchasing the only VANOC authorized Souvenir Program of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. This 148 page high quality keepsake of this once in a lifetime event makes a great Holiday gift at only $20.00 including shipping and tax. This is the official souvenir program - and you can have it before the Olympics start in February! A portion of each sale goes to our school PAC. To order, please complete the order form (sent home with your child on November 17, or click here to download). Return it to the school office with a cheque made out to Burnaby Central. The DEADLINE for orders is November 27, 2009. Programs will be delivered to students before the Christmas Holiday.
Parking and Traffic Safety
With construction for the new school underway our parking lot and drop off / drive through area is severely restricted. Please note that there is only ONE entrance to our lot, with a ONE WAY drive through area leading to ONE exit. Also note that the parking areas are for parking only. Please do not drive through and drop off in these areas (click here for a map of the new parking and drop off area). We encourage students to walk, take public transit, and to allow for more time to get to and from school. We ask that you join us in encouraging students to pay attention to the safety issues associated with these changes in our parking lot, and in reviewing appropriate behavior at bus stops and crosswalks to ensure the safety of all of our students. Click here to view a letter we sent home with students. Thank you for your assistance in ensuring that all of our students are safe on their way to and from school.
Health Information
If your child is feeling sick and staying home, please notify the school of their absence. Be sure to keep them home until they fully recover. If your child should get sick at school, you will be called and asked to pick them up as soon as possible. Please click here for the latest health information updates on our District website.

As another year has started we hope all our students have either continued their health and fitness goals from last year or are ready to set new ones. To assist students in meeting the Daily Physical Activity requirement, Burnaby Central will be providing a number of excellent opportunities to get fit and have some fun.
As a reminder, the activity goals for each grade are:
Grade 8 & 9 – 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day.
Grade 10 to 12 – 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week.
Students can choose a number of different activities in addition to their PE class to help them reach these goals. For more information, visit the very informative link to the Ministry of Education’s presentation on Daily Physical Activity by clicking here. In addition to our Physical Education Program, our school’s activity schedule for this fall is below:
Intramurals
Open Gym
Extra-Curricular Activity – See the Athletic Director Mr. Kuhn or the school planner for information regarding the variety of sports offered at Burnaby Central
Students can now record and organize their daily activity in their student planner. Log Sheets will still need to be handed in prior to Term 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Grade 8/9 Students: to their PE Teacher
Grade 10 Students: requirement will be met through participation in PE 10 or as part of Planning 10
*Grade 10 Students not enrolled in PE 10 or Planning 10 during a semester will need to see Ms. MacDonald in Room 209 (Graduation Transition Office)
Grade 11-12 Students: to the Grad Transition Office.

We have now completed our first year of Collaborative Time at Burnaby Central. This involved the development of Collaborative Teams amongst our staff and the creation of a Mentorship Program to work with our Grade 8-10 students during Collaborative Time. Grade 11 and 12 students were given the opportunity to use the designated time to study or do homework in assigned spaces in the school.
We are in the process of collecting feedback from students, staff and parents about the first year of Collaborative Time in an effort to make improvements for the coming year.
A feedback form can be accessed by clicking here. We ask that you please return this form to our school office by May 25th so that we can include them in our review.
